Trou aux Biches is one of the north-west's main lagoon beaches: pale sand, casuarinas in places, usually gentler water than the east. Hotels sit on parts of it; public access remains on the strip. It is busy because it is convenient from Grand Baie. Come for a swim morning on a north day. Do not cross the island for it if you are already on Flic en Flac — you already have a west lagoon. Reef shoes help where coral rubble sits in the shallows.
