SAMU is the emergency medical service number widely published for Mauritius (114). Confirm you are understood; give a landmark, not only a GPS pin. For lesser injuries, hotels and clinics in towns may be faster than waiting for an emergency crew if the situation is clearly non-critical — that is a judgement call, not medical advice.

Cyclone warnings

Mauritius uses an official cyclone warning class system. When warnings are in force, follow Mauritius Meteorological Services and local authorities — not a hike plan, not a snorkel voucher. Stay inland of surge if told. Do not go to 'see the waves' at Gris-Gris. This app will never recommend riding a cyclone.

Sea and reef

Swim where locals swim and where flags allow. The south coast lookouts are not beaches. Canal passages have boats. Sea urchins are real. If you are caught in current, do not exhaust yourself fighting straight in; signal, float, think. This is general water sense, not a rescue course.

Clinics and pharmacies

Towns have pharmacies (pharmacie) that are the first stop for minor issues. Private clinics exist in urban areas. Hotel doctors are a convenience layer.
