L'Aventure du Sucre
L'Aventure du Sucre occupies a former mill at Beau Plan, in the north. It is one of the clearer public explanations of sugar as Mauritius's historical operating system: land, labour (enslaved then indentured), machinery, and export. The rum tasting at the end is popular; it is not the whole visit. If you only drink and skip the exhibits, you have attended a brand experience. If you walk the industrial story, Chamarel's landscape and Aapravasi Ghat start to connect.
History
Why this place exists
Sugar made this landscape. The museum in a former mill is where cane, rum, and indenture sit in the same building. The tasting room is optional; the labour history is the exhibit.

The story
Cane remade the island's ecology and demography. A mill museum is one of the few places the machinery is allowed to be visible instead of hidden behind a beach. Beau Plan sits near Pamplemousses — a logical north heritage cluster with the botanic garden.
